Shakespear's "Romeo and Juliet" is a classic, and not only is it renowned for its tragedy, it also shows the beginning of two teenagers breaking free from their own different groups, or even a Social Networking revolution. Many ask, what if Romeo and Juliet were in the modern world, with cellphones and the internet? Would they have the same fates? Many have explored this topic of discussion. If Romeo and Juliet had cell phones, they would not have the family problem, they would have individual connection to each other. Cell phones enable the users to have one-on-one time with others in the comforts of their own personal space. Romeo and Juliet would have had an easier time sneaking around behind their families' backs, and they would not have had to get married that quickly. The whole situation would be flipped. With the convenience of mobility, the cell phone would enable Romeo and Juliet to take their conversations anywhere, and they could meet any secret place they wished. Their parents could call them, or even track their locations with an app. The change from household phones to individual cell phones is also a plus for Romeo and Juliet. If they had home phones, family members could pick up extensions in the household and listen in on who was calling and the subject of the conversation within the household phone. Not only could their families eavesdrop, they could also take a look at the phone bill, and see who Romeo or Juliet have been calling, foiling their secret plans. In this day and age, to contact someone at their home, they are enabled to call one individual instead of a whole family. Another question is this; would and could online personas intermingle with their own personal self? Would Romeo and Juliet actually meet, or would they just contact and spend time together online? Research shows that increasingly it is becoming more and more common that in-person contact and online contact are integrated, creating a "best of both worlds" people may say. Easy to say, Romeo and Juliet created a network of people to connect with each other. This, in its time, was never seen, and it is easy to see that this was a first for that century and for the rest of time.
Wellman, Barry, and Lee Rainie. "If Romeo and Juliet Had Mobile Phones."Mobile Media & Communication (2013): n. pag. Print.
You did a very good job analyzing the possibilities of what could have happened if Romeo and Juliet had owned their own mobile phone. Their relationship and family situations would have been drastically different. There were many questions you asked throughout your response for reflection. When you asked, "Would Romeo and Juliet actually meet?" I think they actually would sneak around to see each other because personally I like to have face to face conversations. Texting makes it more difficult to understand the attitude being used or to detect emotions of the person you are communicating with. There is a happy medium between communicating through technology and talking in person. We just have to find it.

I really agreed with what you said. We had very similar views on this article. While there are some things that could be really helpful, a lot of them could also be very hurtful.

I think they would have a different outcome to their relationship. I think they would have not ended their own lives.

I like how you were able to answer questions that people asked when it came to Romeo and Juliet actually having mobile phones. I also like how you touched upon the different effects it would have and what they would do and what their families would have done. Good job pearl necklace:)

There would haven ever been an issue with the tragedy that was Romeo and Juliet. I do think that things would have been fine and there would have been no fighting or dying, if they had mobile phones.
